A smooth recovery begins weeks before your procedure. Use this four-week checklist to prepare your health, your home, and your support system — the patients who prepare well tend to recover more comfortably and protect their results. Always follow your own surgeon's specific instructions, which take priority over any general guide.
4 weeks before: optimize your health
- Stop smoking and all nicotine (including vaping and patches). Nicotine constricts blood vessels and impairs healing — this is one of the most important steps.
- Reach a stable weight. Major weight changes after surgery can affect results.
- Eat well and hydrate. Protein, vitamins, and water support tissue repair.
- Disclose everything to your surgeon: medications, supplements, and history.
2 weeks before: medications and logistics
- Pause blood-thinning medications/supplements only as directed — commonly aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil, vitamin E, and certain herbal supplements. Never stop prescribed medication without medical approval.
- Avoid excess alcohol.
- Arrange a ride and a caregiver for the first 24–48 hours.
- Plan time off work and from strenuous duties.
1 week before: prepare your space
Set up a comfortable recovery zone:
| Category | Have ready |
|---|---|
| Comfort | Pillows, BBL/recovery cushion, loose button-front clothing |
| Supplies | Compression garments, prescribed meds, gauze |
| Food | Easy meals, protein, water within reach |
| Help | Caregiver, childcare, pet care arranged |
| Admin | Follow-up appointments on the calendar |
The day before
- Follow fasting instructions exactly.
- Shower with any prescribed cleanser.
- Lay out loose clothing and your garment.
- Get a good night's sleep and arrive on time.
The day of surgery
- Wear loose, comfortable clothing — nothing pulled over your head.
- Leave jewelry and valuables at home.
- Bring your ID and any required paperwork.
- Have your caregiver ready to take you home and stay with you.
This checklist is educational and general. Your surgical team's pre-op instructions always take precedence.
